No, and we are careful about the difference. We are painters. We wash the surface, prepare it and put paint on it to bring the color back. Anything structural is a roofing contractor’s job, and we will tell you so rather than paint over it.

Usually yes, and it is the cheaper way to do it. The crew is already set up, the masking is already in place, and you deal with one schedule instead of two. Mention it at the estimate if you are weighing up both.

The drive and walkways are back to normal the same evening. We ask you to stay off the roof and keep sprinklers away from fresh paint until the next day, and we will say before we leave if anything needs longer.

A pale tile reflects more sunlight than a dark one, which is why silver and white are so common on metal and mobile home roofs down here. We will not put a number on what that does to your power bill, because it depends on your attic, your insulation and how much shade you have.

Three to seven days for most single-family homes, a day or two longer if there is heavy patching or several colors. Joe puts the number in writing at the estimate instead of guessing on the phone.

We watch the radar all afternoon through the summer. If a storm is coming in we stop early and leave the masking up, then carry on where we left off. Rain on a coat that has had time to dry is fine; rain on a wet one is not, so we would sooner lose an hour than redo a wall.

Sun, salt air and daily summer storms are hard on paint, and the south and west walls always go first. Most Gulf Coast homes start looking tired somewhere between five and ten years, sooner within sight of the water. Prep moves that number more than the brand of paint does.

Not the way we do it. Chalk and algae come off at low pressure with the right tip and some patience. High pressure drives water where it should not go and can carve soft stucco, so it stays off anything delicate.

Nobody can answer that honestly over the phone, and it is worth being wary of anyone who tries. It comes down to how much surface there is, how high and how reachable it is, what condition it is in, how much patching and masking it needs, and how many colors are involved. The estimate is free, written, and yours to keep whether or not you use us.

The written price covers the work described on it. It only moves if you add something, or if we uncover damage underneath that has to be dealt with before paint makes any sense. Either way you hear about it and agree to it before anyone carries on.

No. Most customers are at work and we get on with it. Two moments are worth being there for: the estimate, so you can point out what actually bothers you, and the walkthrough at the end, so you can look over the finish with Joe before the ladders come down.
